Yesterday, I received an email from our custodian, Victor, asking me to order more custodial supplies for our campus. He added a note by the trifold towels we use in the restrooms that said, “We are going through these quickly!”
I replied right away, asking if we’re using them faster than we have in the past. Victor confirmed: yes—we are seeing many more people using the church now!
Things were much quieter during the years we were dealing with COVID and not meeting in person, but with those worries largely behind us, our campus is busier than ever.
- Every week, we host our own Scout Troop 506 and six different AA recovery groups.
- Each month, two Girl Scout troops meet here as well.
- Two National Charity League (NCL) chapters—San Diego and Seaside—also use our facilities for their regular gatherings.
This May, we’re honored to host two charitable organizations with deep roots in the community:
- On May 10, Third Avenue Charitable Organization will hold their Empty Bowls event.
- On May 17, the La Jolla Historical Society will use our parking lot for shuttle service to the Secret Garden Tour and will host a luncheon on campus for selected members.
Later in the month, K9 Nose Work (K9NW) will be using the entire campus on Friday, May 23, and Saturday, May 24. This unique event offers dogs a chance to develop their natural scenting abilities, while also providing competition design and trial sanctioning, instructor certification, and education in a canine-centered environment. Attendees will be coming from across Southern California!
Each summer, La Jolla UMC proudly hosts the La Jolla Young Actors Workshop on our campus. Deidre Andrews, the program’s director, has generously donated a registration to the NS Gala for the past two years
