How Your Pledge Supports Missions

As we are pledging to contribute to church funds, I thought that the congregation would like to know which organizations are supported by the church through the activities of the Missions & Social Concerns Committee.  Our committee is a relatively small part of the church budget, but we provide funds for several important community groups as well as some missionary programs.  Our social concerns are focused primarily on our local community where contributions can have a significant and immediate effect.  These are the organizations supported with funds from the church budget:

Project Grace at Pacific Beach UMC

Community Christian Service Agency (CCSA)

Missionary Covenant for Katherine Parker in Nepal

Interfaith Shelter Network

Guatemala Project

Autism Society San Diego

Besides our donation of food when we cook once a month for Project Grace, our financial support provides meals for the homeless and hungry every week of the year.  Our support of the Interfaith Shelter Network helps to provide shelter in the winter even when we are unable to host at our church.  CCSA provides food, clothing, and a broad range of services to those in need in our community.

We are doing “good work” with these funds, but giving by our congregation for special causes represents a greater share of the funds provided by our church.  During the pandemic, the church has supported a hospital in Nepal and UMCOR’s service to those in need in our country and around the world.  Additional support for CCSA and Interfaith Shelter can always be counted upon.

In hope,

Stan Johnson, Missions & Social Concerns Chair
