Giving Accomplishments and Financial Commitments

This is an update on giving by our congregation. Through the church budget managed by the Missions & Social Concerns Committee, we provide ongoing support to CCSA, Interfaith Shelter Network, Project Grace, Guatemala Project, and our missionary in Nepal for a total of more than $8,000. Christmas Giving by the congregation provided an additional $7,000 for these organizations along with the Heifer Project, Habitat for Humanity, and Nothing But Nets.

This spring we provided funds to the UMCOR International Disaster Response and Recovery fund to aid the people of Ukraine. The situation in Ukraine has only gotten worse since March, so our support is still needed. Please designate “UMCOR-Ukraine” on a check to the church office or at Sunday service.  You can also give online at the church “Giving” page at our website. (Selecting “Give Online” will take you to our new donations page where you click on “Other.” Please write UMCOR-Ukraine in the Note section.)

In the last two years, we have become acquainted with another organization serving our area, Shoreline Community Services. Their current focus is to address the unmet needs of unsheltered individuals and families in the central beach area. They have been a major sponsor and supporter of Project Grace, and they have opened a new facility called The Compass Station in Pacific Beach. The Compass Station is a place where unhoused individuals and families can come to connect with the resources and services they need to get off of the street. It offers county services, housing options, mental health and substance use resources. There is also a laundry, volunteer nurses and a small computer lab where people can charge devices, recover documents, search and apply for jobs, and more. We are looking at becoming active supporters of Shoreline Community Services. Please take a look at their website (https://shorelinecs.org/ ) to see how they might fit into our mission.
